KNEC to Begin 2025 KPSEA and KJSEA Registrations

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the start dates for the registration of 2025 candidates for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA).

KNEC CEO David Njengere revealed on Thursday that KPSEA registration will begin on January 27, 2025, while the KJSEA registration portal will open on February 17.

Parents are required to provide their ID numbers during registration to facilitate tracking learners within the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Important Guidelines:

  • Centre Managers: Ensure that all candidates are registered for the correct subjects. Erroneous registrations will not be rectified, and affected candidates will have to defer their exams to 2026.
  • Projected Candidates: Approximately 1,145,585 learners who were in Grade 8 in 2024 and are now transitioning to Grade 9 are expected to take the KJSEA.

New Initiatives:

  • KJSEA candidates will receive online questionnaires via their schools. These will gather feedback on their interests and personalities, forming critical data for Senior School placement.

Transition Updates:

  • The KPSEA exam, replacing the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), had its first cohort of Grade 6 learners rehearse in November 2023.
  • The final KCSE exam will be administered in 2027. Candidates wishing to retake KCSE fully or partially are encouraged to do so before then.

KPSEA Exam Structure:
The KPSEA will include the following subjects:

  1. Mathematics (1 hour 20 minutes)
  2. English and Kiswahili (1 hour each)
  3. Integrated Science (I.S.): Covers Home Science, Agriculture, Science and Technology, and Physical and Health Education (1 hour 40 minutes).
  4. Creative and Social Sciences (C.A.S.S.): Includes Art and Craft, Music, Social Studies, and Religious Education (1 hour 40 minutes).

Notably, Composition and Insha will not be tested under the new curriculum.

Special Considerations:
Only students with special needs will be granted additional time during the exam.
