KNEC Website Crashes as 2024 KCSE Results Are Released
Candidates of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations were unable to access their results following their release on Thursday afternoon, as the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website experienced downtime.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the results shortly after noon, stating they would be available to the public through the KNEC portal at https://results.knec.ac.ke. However, attempts to access the portal were met with error messages such as “This page isn’t working” and “This site can’t be reached.”
Ogamba advised candidates experiencing difficulties to contact KNEC using the toll-free numbers 0800724900 or 0800721410. However, Citizen Digital reported that these helplines were also overwhelmed, with calls unable to connect.
The situation marked a departure from previous years when candidates could access their results via SMS by sending their index numbers to a designated KNEC shortcode.
A similar issue occurred in 2023 when Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates faced delays accessing their results due to the collapse of the SMS service. At the time, KNEC issued an apology, citing technical issues with their system.
As of press time, KNEC had not yet commented on the website downtime or provided updates on resolving the issue.
